ADVERTISEMENT: FOOD SECURITY AND LIVELIHOODS (FSL) OFFICERS
ROLE PURPOSE
Save the Children is seeking FSL Officer for a 5-year USAID Feed the Future Kenya Food Systems Activity (KFS). The five-year Feed the Future Kenya Food Systems (LFS) activity will promote inclusive agriculture-led growth, strengthen the resilience of people and systems, improve nutrition and diet diversity of women and children, as well as integrate cross-cutting themes in Kenya’s North, West and Southeast. The expected impact of this programme is “increased capacity of at risk and climate vulnerable households and communities to anticipate, adapt to, and absorb the impact of shocks and stresses induced by climate change. The FSL Officer will be working in cooperation with the KFS Activity team and in collaboration with local authorities and project delivery partners. In addition, he/she will be tasked on reporting and when requested engaged in monitoring, evaluation and learning activities. The post holder will be based in either Isiolo/Kisumu regional hubs.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Project Implementation:
- Oversee the implementation of assigned resilience project activities to ensure they have been completed in a timely and accountable manner.
- Liaise with local authorities, local implementing partner and communities as need be.
- Set up, plan, supervise and monitor the assigned KFS resilience activities at the field level to ensure the successful implementation of all activities, the generation of planned outputs and attainment of key project objectives.
- To ensure KFS resilience activities undertaken by the implementing partners are appropriately documented. This may include but is not limited to agreements or MOUs with relevant authorities in project areas, attendance sheets and training circular, beneficiary Registration lists, work plans and accounts when relevant, etc.
- Help in development and updating of monthly Project Management Framework (PMF) sheets to ensure smooth tracking of the assigned tasks
- Periodically monitor and update Beneficiary database and inform on any update required.
- Coordinate with MEL department on all planned monitoring activities of the project and create smooth work relationship.
- To produce internal report on weekly and monthly basis
- Coordinate in the participatory vulnerability and capacity assessments based on the project activities using LFS standard tools.
- Plan and coordinate relevant trainings to implementing partners and other actors and ensuring required guidelines.
- Participate in project evaluations alongside MEL staff and assist in the analysis of results.
- Inform and document any challenges faced during the implementation phase of the KFS’s resilience activities.
Stakeholder coordination
- Field coordination with the local stakeholders including project participants.
- Coordinate with local authorities and ensure continuous communication regarding the implementation of the project to ensure progress of activities.
- Support in building relationships between the Local Food System Activity and county government departments and communities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agronomy, food security, enterprise development or any related field (master degree is an advantage).
- Minimum three years of experience in a relevant position and experiences within INGOs under food security and livelihood programming.
- Knowledge in Food Security and livelihood, vegetable gardening, and skills development.
- Two-years’ experience working in the agriculture sector (under USAID funded resilience programs) is an asset.
- Strong working knowledge (spoken, written and reading) of English.
- Excellent personal organisational skills, including time management, and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation developing effective working relationships to deliver outstanding results for children.
- Willingness and capability to comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to health and safety, security, equal opportunities and other relevant policies, including the Child Safeguarding Policy.
- Good skills using MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Experience implementing vocational and technical education and training programs focused on youth employment.
- Commitment to SCI Values.
- Fluency in English, both verbal and written, required.
- Commitment to Save the Children values, including willingness to abide by and enforce the Child Safeguarding policy.
