In Kenya, over 80% of children under five do not get adequate amounts of Vitamin A, and 43% of women of childbearing age are anemic because they do not consume adequate amounts of iron.

SHOT IN THE ARM FOR CHILD SURVIVAL.

The European Union has launched two projects worth  800,000 euros each which will be implemented by Save the Children and Handicap International in the slums of Korogocho and Kibera.  The launch which took place at the AIC Church compound was well attended by members of the community, the county government and also the partners. The projects are targeted towards improving the health of pregnant women and children with a specific focus on mothers and children with disabilities and are going to be implemented over the next two to four years.

MORE FUNDS RAISED AT THIS YEARS FIRST LADY’S BEYOND ZERO MARATHON

This year’s International Women’s Day in Kenya was also marked by the flagging off of the   First Lady’s half marathon which was attended by over 15,000 people. Thousands of people gathered at the Nyayo National Stadium where the race was flagged off beginning with the wheel chair race, followed by the 21 kilometer race then the 10kilometers and finally the 2 kilometer fun run.

GOVERNMENT AND DONORS IN UNITY TO FIGHT MATERNAL AND CHILD MALNUTRITION

“It is unacceptable to have over 19,000 children dying every year because they are underweight due to lack of adequate food.” This was remarked by the First Lady, her Excellency Margaret Kenyatta yesterday as she officially opened the national nutrition symposium and launched the Kenya-European Union-Unicef Maternal and Child Nutrition Program at the Kenya School of Governance. The event was well attended by partners from the nutrition sector, business sector, children, donors and also representatives of all the counties from all over the country.
