Senior Program Advisor, Global Migration and Displacement Initiative (MDI)

The Opportunity

Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Senior Program Advisor, Global Migration and Displacement Initiative (MDI) in London, UK or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office worldwide.

Role Purpose:

The Senior Program Advisor will play a central role in both establishing and driving forward our Migration and Displacement programmatic and programmatic policy content; developing our profile with key donors and influencers, and enabling us to amplify the voices of children. 

Under the MDI Director’s steer, the role holder will be responsible for developing and coordinating high-quality, often integrated program interventions and providing guidance to Save the Children leadership and key programmatic colleagues at country, regional and global level. They will lead on cross-organizational learning and support coherent programming across our decentralized structure. A good understanding across a range of program areas will be essential, including (but not exclusive to) durable solutions, child protection, livelihoods, education and health & nutrition. Some understanding of approaches to drive meaningful child participation and agency, as well as the impact of climate change on migration and displacement is also key. An ability to work collaboratively to support colleagues to design, fund and implement effective migration and displacement related programs is essential.

In order to be successful, you will bring/have:

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • Extensive experience of development and humanitarian programme design and implementation, targeting displaced and migrant populations, with substantial time working at country and/or regional level
  • Demonstrable leadership skills (primarily through influencing) and particular strengths as a convenor across multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent technical knowledge of key migration and displacement issues (including ‘top-line’ legal frameworks and policies), with previous engagement and strong understanding of durable solutions
  • A good understanding of current migration and displacement research
  • Strong technical knowledge and systems development experience in key areas: project cycle management, monitoring & evaluation, inclusive & sustainable programming, child safeguarding, etc
  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to assimilate and process large amounts of information into a coherent narrative.
  • A capacity for critical thinking and commitment to producing original and challenging ideas to improve policy and practice.
  • The ability to present arguments clearly and convincingly to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience in organising workshops and policy discussions.
  • Proven experience of building personal networks, resulting in securing significant new opportunities for the organisation.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work collaboratively in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Excellent verbal & written skills in English
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and a proven ability to drive work forward across complex internal networks in a matrixed way, including influencing and negotiation
  • The ability to manage and juggle a complex and varied workload, at times working independently, at others working to tight deadlines under time pressure

Desirable

  • Expertise in child focused migration/displacement programming
  • Proficiency in a language other than English
  • A strong international network within external facilities/organisations

We can offer circa £62,000 per annum (If based in UK) with an option of flexible working hours. If the role is based outside of the UK, National T&C (including pay) will apply.

This role can be based in London or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office location on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location.
