Research Officer

Title: Research officer- Somali National

Save the Children is the world's leading independent organisation for children. We work in 120 countries. We save children's lives; we fight for their rights; we help them fulfil their potential.

We work together, with our partners, to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.

We have over two million supporters worldwide and raised 1.9 billion dollars last year to reach more children than ever before, through programmes in health, nutrition, education, protection and child rights, also in times of humanitarian crises.

Following a major transition, our international programmes are now delivered through a merged operation with 15,000 staff, managed through seven regional hubs and reporting to a relatively small, central office. We're changing to become more efficient, more aligned, a better partner, a stronger advocate, a magnet for world-class people and relevant for the 21st century.

ROLE PURPOSE:

To implement and roll out a MAMI research on gaining greater understanding and improve programming approach for adolescent mothers enrolled in MAMI. Currently the MAMI Care Pathway does not differentiate the risks, support or approach to providing support for adolescent mother’s vs mothers older than 18.  Therefore, Save the Children seeks to establish a greater understanding of these three areas to improve services for this age group. The first area is by enhancing understanding of risks and realities for adolescent mothers enrolled in MAMI through a desk review of existing evidence, mapping of current caseload of adolescent mothers and qualitative data collection with former and current adolescent clients and MAMI practitioners. The second area is adapting or adding to MAMI Tools and recommend other adaptations to the MAMI approach to improve services for adolescent mothers (i.e., Programming Brief). The third area is to create new content for SC’s MAMI Training Package on support to adolescent mothers to support implementation of the Tools/ Programming brief. Therefore, the Research officer will ensure that tools and procedures are harmonised across research sites. The research officer will also train, couch, and supervise enumerators, maintain records, and ensure ethical participation of research participants.
